• Google retiring Reader service in July

While RSS has been on the decline in recent years with the explosion of user-submitted news aggregation on sites like Facebook, Google +, Reddit and others, there have been a steady stream of traffic through RSS reader applications on smartphones and tablets.

Many of these relied on the Google Reader service for sync support and caching of feeds.  While Google retiring the service may not surprise many, the usability of cached feeds and content collection handled by a single point of service is seen as useful by quite a few.

If Google is retiring the service, a new company will need to step up and replace the all-content, no recommendation based service soon.

Sometimes you just need news without a filter.
